Port Douglas has almost none of the big takeaway fast food chains except Domino’s Pizza at the Port Village Shopping Centre. But there are plenty of other places to buy takeaway food and this post will give you all of the best fast food and take-out food options. A lot of restaurants and hotels (pubs) will also serve a takeout meal if you ask. Domino’s Pizza is one of very few places that provide food delivery to your house or hotel, most takeaways in Port Douglas require you to phone up or purchase food in person. Domino’s also allows you to order online. In our guide to Port Douglas takeaway food, we give you links to menus, phone numbers and online ordering where it is available.

Port Douglas Takeaways

Here we have a list of takeaway food options in Port Douglas, for Australian and International foods, with options for vegans and vegetarians.

Takeaway Fish and Chips in Port Douglas

Dave’s on Macrossan Street and the Four Mile Takeaway can serve you take-out fish and chips. Dave’s has a longer menu, including chicken, milkshakes, burgers at hot dogs. Both serve a selection of Australian fish and seafood, deep-fried or grilled.

Four Mile Takeaway’s menu is available online but their site isn’t secure so I can’t give you a link, unfortunately. Their opening hours are very short lately.

Don’t expect to see cod and haddock in a tropical fish and chip shop. Coral trout is a very nice fish, found on the Great Barrier Reef, my second choice would be Spanish Mackeral, which is nothing like mackerel in Europe, it’s a white fish. Chicken salt is often used on fish and chips in Australia, so if you don’t want that, be sure to tell them. Squid is called calamari here and most fish and chip shops will have deep-fried calamari rings. Some will have barramundi, it can be wild or farmed.

Takeaway Pizzas in Port Douglas

We’ve already mentioned Dominoes at Port Village, but there are plenty of other takeaway pizza options in Port Douglas. We think Sassi La Cucina and Bar on the end of Macrossan Street do the best pizzas. Sassi now have a branch at The Beach Shack on 4 Mile, if that’s closer to you.

Oaks Resort also serves takeout pizza, their menu is online here. You can order online, but they don’t offer delivery. Their pizzas are handcrafted and stonebaked and are served by The Little Pizza Company, based at Oaks. They are open 7 days a week, 12 – 3 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm.

Chillys Pizza also serve takeaway and eat-in pizza at Mowbray Street, to the rear of Macrossan Street. It’s an easy walk. Their menu is on Facebook, not on their website the last time we checked. We couldn’t find a way to order takeaway online.

Rattle and Hum, also on Macrossan Street, have takeaway pizza.

Takeaway Burgers in Port Douglas

Burgers from N17 Port Douglas, available to take away.

N17 on Macrossan Street in Port Douglas town has a long menu of burgers and can provide you with a takeaway burger. Their menu is online here. They’re almost opposite Coles and Port Village Shopping Centre. You can also dine-in and watch sports on the big screen. They have vegetarian and vegan options, plus chicken and fish burgers. N17 is open 7 days a week (normally) and their phone number is on the top right of their website, here. This place is one of our family favourites, we eat here often, so that’s a recommendation from us. We love that they use our great local beef.

We also need to tell you about the “Best Burger in The World” available from The Mexican in MT Molloy. The burgers from this tiny place are huge and are very “Aussie” with “The Lot”. If you fancy a drive up the range road through Julatten to MT Molloy, it’s worth experiencing their burgers. An Aussie burger with the lot normally has bacon, egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato and beetroot.

The MT Molloy Pub, AKA The National Hotel (almost next door to The Mexican) is a great old Australian pub, and they also do good burgers and can serve meals in take-out boxes.

MT Molloy is about a 50-minute drive from Port Douglas.

Takeaway Chinese Food in Port Douglas

Port Douglas has a Chinese restaurant that was famously visited by Bill Clinton. If you want to tread in the ex-president’s footsteps, you need the Jade Inn on Macrossan Street. Their takeaway menu is online here and their phone number to order.

The other big Chinese Restaurant in Port Douglas is the Han Court, on Davidson St. a little way outside of the main town. Their takeaway menu is here, with prices.

Of the two, we’d probably recommend the Jade Inn.

Takeaway Thai Food in Port Douglas

Modern Thai style food, available as takeaway at Jungle Fowl Port Douglas

One of Port Douglas’s best restaurants, Jungle Fowl on Wharf Street, can make you a take out meal. Their menu is quite short and won’t give you all the usual Thai takeaway foods, but the dishes they do, are all very good in our opinion. The “Thai Banquet” set menu is particularly good to share.

We’ve spent months in Thailand and have taken a lot of Thai cookery courses, we think it’s good, but not quite like the food in Thailand. It’s more “fancy.” Their menu is online here, as is their phone number for orders. Jungle Fowl is currently only open from 5 pm, Wednesday to Sunday. This may change, Port Douglas is a small town and seasonality affects restaurant opening hours.

There are other Thai restaurants in Port Douglas, two on Macrossan St, one on Warf St. All of them offer takeaway food.

Vietnamese Takeaway in Port Douglas

There is a small Vietnamese takeaway/ restaurant on Grant Street. We’ve had the pho here often and it’s good. We have lived in Vietnam, it was comparable with our local pho joint there. But the pho is so good we haven’t ordered much else! We can also vouch for the beef wrapped in betel leaf. Both are in the photos above. It’s called Viet Pho and it has seating on the pavement and takeaway.

Takeaway Pies in Port Douglas

Mockas was the most famous pie shop in Port Douglas for years, it’s been closed for months, but it has recently re-opened. They’ll normally have a crocodile or kangaroo pie for you, plus loads of other flavours including vegetarian. On the same street, Grant Street, there is The Grant Street Bakery. They have some very substantial pies, along with other sweet and savoury baked goods to take out.

The IGA supermarket and The Fuel Stations on the Highway also have hot pies and sausage rolls usually.

If you’re heading up the range road to Julatten, the Nine Mile Service Station just at the top of the hill also makes pies, and they’re very good.

Vegan Takeaway Food in Port Douglas

Bam Pow is a plant-based restaurant in Port Douglas, a little outside the main town at the start of Wharf Street on Davidson Street. It’s near Dougie’s Backpacker Resort. Bam Pow even lets you order food online. Go here to see their menu, and to order. Their food is Asian, quite Vietnamese and street-food style. What we’ve eaten there has been good. They don’t offer delivery, you’ll have to pick up your food in person.

Sweet Things To Take Out

Sweet things, ice cream, gelato and drinks to take out in Port Douglas.

Port Doublas has always had plenty of ice cream. There’s an ice cream shop at The Marina, in the old Bally Hooly Station, and one at the eastern end of Macrossan Shop, towards the beach, Shakes Gelati Bar (our favourite). There is also the relatively new gelato and granita at Capannina. The last time we were in there they had some very delicious looking eclairs and tiramisu on offer too.

A new addition to Port Douglas this year is boba tea at Steep on Macrossan. They also serve sushi when available and mochi. My son gave their taro and coconut bubble tea a big thumbs up.

Duke’s doughnuts at Origin Espresso (a coffee shop on Grant St) deserve a mention too. Their main bakery and doughnut shop is in Mossman, but you can also catch them at Port Douglas Sunday Markets usually. They do tend to sell out, so get there early.

UberEats in Port Douglas

As far as we know, no Uber Eats is available in Port Douglas yet. There are very few Uber vehicles available. But of course, that may change. We’ll try and keep this post up to date if that happens, Uber Eats is straying north of Cairns City and through the Northern Beaches of Cairns.

There is also some Indian food in Port Douglas, and kebabs. There was sushi, but that shop closed down, another is opening and the Boba tea shop has sushi when available. Some places can make you a sandwich or wrap. We recommend the breakfast wraps at ZanDers Beach Cafe. behind Four Mile Beach if you’re very hungry. There is also a kebab shop. We’ll be adding more options, with photos, constantly. Every restaurant we recommend, we try ourselves. We hope our article helps you find the best Port Douglas takeaway food easily.
